on therapeutic relationships…

let’s talk ••• therapeutic relationships

Research shows positive outcomes in therapy are attributed to 40% client factors, 30% therapeutic relationship, 15% therapy model, and 15% placebo/hope.

What does this even mean?? 🆘

It means that it doesn’t matter that I have a home in Solution-Focused theory, and vacation homes in CBT and EFT, and visit friends in Narrative and Person-Centered all the time.

It means that how I relate to each individual client, and how you relate to your therapist, is going to correlate strongly with your progress in therapy, and feeling closer to the goals you’ve created for yourself.

AND it means ✨you✨ and the work you do outside of the roughly 50 minutos in session, is the MOST important factor in your success in therapy. You get out of therapy what you put in! And practice makes what? A habit or more automatic! I bet you just nailed that answer, no?! So, if you’re not feelin’ it/no positive vibes/it’s not you it’s me, it might be time to break up with your therapist and find someone you can feel comfortable with! Or at least start the conversation about the rifts in your current therapeutic relationship.
