On labels…
I strongly dislike labeling my clients with a diagnosis. 🏷
Clients are not a code from a book. There is so much more to a human than the experience of depression or feeling the weight of anxiety, living with schizophrenia, etc.
In my career, I’ve had to diagnose for treatment plans or for medical necessity and now I don’t have to diagnose at all.
But just like labeling something GOOD or BAD we have to step back and ask, what is the whole? It can be good AND bad. Humans ARE NOT depressed • they are experiencing depression at the moment. Those hot Cheetos aren’t BAD • they are an indulgence in spicy crunchy form. That celery juice isn’t GOOD • it’s adding to your healthy lifestyle and choices. That friend isn’t BAD • he/she may not be meeting your prior expectations for the friendship.
🛑 Stop labeling food as good or bad.
🛑 Stop labeling people as good or bad.
✋🏼And I vow to never label you as your diagnosis.
Labels are what we make them. So let’s leave them at the door. 🚪 👋🏼
