On language…
DON’T SHOULD ON YOURSELF.
Fun fact, therapists DON’T give advice. They have ideas about tools and skills, but the change you create in bettering your life comes from YOU.
That being said, I’ve got a nugget of wisdom for ya. Take it or leave it!
STOP 🛑 SAYING “SHOULD.”
Literally. Stop. It. RN
Saying the word “should” gives this figurative rule book for life (that doesn’t exist) the power to control your actions, thoughts, and mood.
Who says you SHOULD lose weight? Who says you SHOULD be a better friend? Who says you SHOULD have a salad instead of a burrito? Who says you SHOULD __(insert any thing ever here)__.
Say: “want, wish, or would like” instead, and if the statement is still true, proceed. If not, erase it from importance. Boom.
